Matt Yap is a Manager who has been with VBO since 2019. Prior to joining VBO, Matt was a Manager in Financial Reporting with Credit Suisse. Matt managed a team of staff to meet financial and regulatory reporting requirements for the bank. His team prepared financial statements for SEC filings and reports for various regulators such as the Federal Reserve Bank. His responsibilities included approving journal entries, reviewing prepared financial statements, performing internal controls in accordance with SOX 404, coordinating with external auditors, and working with his staff to produce deliverables for the bank’s stakeholders. He also served as a subject matter expert on financial reporting for the bank’s derivative contracts and secured financing products. Prior to that, Matt was an Audit Senior with Deloitte & Touche, where he provided assurance services on both public and private company audits. He managed a team of audit staff to perform audit procedures in accordance with the AICPA and PCAOB which included performing quarterly reviews, substantive testing, internal control walkthroughs and testing, agreed upon procedures, audit engagement planning, and fraud risk assessments. His experience encompassed audits for clients in various industries including financial services, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, technology, and manufacturing.
Matt earned his Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Information Systems with a minor in Business as well as his Master of Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently holds memberships with the AICPA and NCACPA. He is also an Eagle Scout.
Outside the office, Matt loves spending his free time with his wife and daughter. He enjoys competing in marathons and Spartan races, cycling, and playing tennis. He likes watching sports and always roots for the Tar Heels.
