Christopher Smith, Director at VBO, has over 6 years of private equity accounting experience at Venture Back Office and brings to the firm more than 6 years of public accounting experience from his time with Ernst & Young, LLP in both the Boston and Raleigh offices. Chris has extensive financial service organization, life sciences, and software accounting experience, and a proven track record of auditing initial public offerings in all three industries.
Prior to joining Ernst & Young, LLP, Chris spent a short time with Red Hat, Inc. He collaborated on a project to research and retrieve historic pricing data related to software revenue recognition for executive management, the board of directors and the external auditors. As a result of the findings, the stock price saw a large positive increase from the news.
Chris has a bachelor of science in accounting from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also holds a masters of business administration from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, Massachusetts. He currently is a member the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (ncaCPA). He holds a designation of Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), as well.
Outside the office, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys. He is active in coaching youth sports and enjoys playing basketball and golf.
